Banking and finance professionals should consider pursuing the Chartered Banker MBA to advance their careers, according to Tan Sri Azman Hashim, chairman of the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB) at a press conference last Saturday.

He stated that bankers could apply for the Chartered Banker MBA, which is offered by the Asian Banking School and supported by the AICB at Bangor Business School in Wales, UK.

"This is a unique accelerated path that allows AICB Chartered Bankers to accelerate their knowledge journey and earn an MBA in as little as 12 months. It normally takes 2 years to complete."

"You will receive two degrees at the same time." You will be a chartered banker with an MBA. "I encourage you to think about it," he said following the AICB's fifth Chartered Banker Conference.

The MBA

According to Azman, the Chartered Banker MBA is an additional qualification that could help banking and finance professionals compete in a more competitive and broad industry. The AICB awarded chartered banker designations to 177 people.

Azman stated in his opening remarks that competent and highly skilled banking talents were essential for Malaysia's financial system to function effectively, citing the Bank Negara Malaysia Financial Sector Blueprint 2022-2036.

"As a result, not only do you have a competitive advantage in your role as banking professionals, but more importantly, talents like yourself will continue to be in demand."

Addressing the professionals at the event, Azman says, "For those of you who will become Chartered Bankers today, this is not the end of your learning journey. Given the massive changes taking place in the banking and financial landscape, you must continue to grow, adapt and evolve, so embrace an effective lifelong learning mindset.

"As part of the Institute's efforts to support the continuing professional development of our members, we have many thought leadership initiatives such as webinars, conferences, e-learning, and networking activities in which you can get involved."
